a6000: lowering resolution of the images

I've been using a 10MPs DSLR for years, and I've been satisfied with the size of the printings and the size occupied by the files on SD Card and HDDs.

I'm switching to an a6000 for a thousand reasons but the 24MPs sensor, because I won't print such big photos, and I won't need such big files. Can I lower the resolution to let's say 12MPs via menu options, without compromising the quality of the images?

Will the image processor resize the jpeg image from 24 to 12MPs in-camera, thus executing a lossy operation on the file, or will the camera shoot using half of the resolution, without any artifacts or quality loss?

Thanks in advance

What options do you have within your main menu? as looking at the user manual , under the camera settings section you should have a look at either 'Image Size' or 'Image quality' i dont know if it effects it whether you shoot in camera raw or Jpeg?
