I request Xperia Devs to inculde this feature of being able to change the track in music (or walkman) by long pressing volume control keys. It is very useful.

are you aware that you can use the headphones to do so?

press it once play/stop the music

press it twice skip to the next song

press it thrice play previous track

i know that but vol rocker key are more comfotable and easy...:smileyhappy:

And anyways the non android walkman phones have that feature so if they are callin the ics music player as walkman they might as well add the feature...:smileysilly:

I'm trying to think how would that work, as if you press and hold it the volume goes up or down, if that's add it then you will have to press it multiple times to turn the volume up and down

I'd like to second that. Next track should be available when the phone is locked.

@uliwooly - thank you for the info; did not know that. But many users choose not to use the Xperia headset - not because it isn't quality, but because maybe they already have something good and stick to it. So it'd be a welcome, non-costly improvement.

I have to admit 50% of the time I still use my mp3 player which I carry with me at all times, because I feel I have better control over what's playing. It's a good and reliable but old one. Sound-wise doesn't compare to the phone, but...

The volume up/down has 15 steps from 0 to 100%. I doubt users usually want to switch from 7% to 85%, they mostly want to tune the volume by 1-3 steps. It wouldn't be painful to press the up/down button 1-3 times. Besides, it's risky to press a button for 2 seconds as the volume would zoom rapidly towards 0 or 100% so I'm guessing that when listening to music noone does that.

So it would be feasible to implement an option whereby pressing the up/down volume only does the action it's supposed to once the button is let go. Thus, if the button has been pressed for 2 seconds the track could be changed. If not the volume is.

Just something to think about. If anything, i doubt it would be hard to add an option under Settings >> Xperia where you choose between the two operating modes - the one that functions now and the one described by us in this thread.

Not a big task for a developer, but worth it if you want to continue to associate Sony with a walkman/mp3 player experience. I truly think it is.
