Sony A57 - Bad 1080/50p Video Quality - Will there be an improvement by firmware anytime soon?

Dear Sony-Team,

as already deeply investigated in many communities, the Sony A57 (and others) extremely lacks details in its Videos. While showing bad reslts in all modes, its most evident in 1080/50p mode. Please compare the A57 single frames against a photo of same resolution: http://www.dslr-forum.de/showpost.php?p=10960817&postcount=94

I understand a DSLR is not a replacement for a good quality camcorder. But as Sony is advertising the A57 heavily focussing its video capability and 50/60p modes I expected way more. Even standard Smartphones offer more sharp videos in 1080p and almost every compact camera with a mid-range 720p mode overpasses the A57.

Is there any chance that Sony will have a closer look at it anytime soon and can we expect some kind of improvement via firmware updates?

Sorry, but that is just not true for this case. No matter which lens was used in all the tests, the quality is always way below normal 1080p (actually, even most of 720p Videos offer better quality).

Close up Vidoe Scenes seem to be okay, as soon as you have background like forests, etc the result is horrible. Please read the full thread on the link above and you will see plenty of evidence.

Deine Videos sind das perfekte Beispiel. Es sind aber (vordergründig) nicht die Linsen der Grund dafür das Video 1 gut aussieht, und Video 2 schlecht, sondern das Motiv. Weit entfernte Strukturen kann die A57 garnicht, close-up's hingegen scheinen gut abgebildet.

hallo,

ich sehe bei dem link nur vergleiche zwischen video und foto einer kamera, nicht aber vergleiche von anderen kameras zwischen video und foto.

es ist ja total normal das ein video nicht die gleiche schärfe bringt ist auch sinnvoller. selbst bei 4k, was ich kürzlich noch verglichen habe ist ein deutlicher unterschied zwischen foto und video bei allen herstellern. es liegt auch viel an der komprimierung.

Nein, das ist schon ein Vergleich von Vidoaufnahmen. Die A57 macht ganz miserable Bilder, ist schon in einigen Diskussionsforum (Deutsch und Englisch) diskutiert wurden (FW 1.03/FW 1.04). Da berichten einige verschiedene A57-Besiter drüber. Ich hab's ganz ausführlich getestet. Vielleicht war es ja bis FW 1.02 besser, ich habe 1.03 und habe auch 1.04 geprüft.

Ich habe mal einen YouTube-Beitrag gemacht, der das, glaube ich, gut verdeutlicht. Ich habe Canon A650D, Panasonic FZ200, Sony A77, ... mit der A57 verglichen. Das ist ein Unterschied wie Tag und Nacht. Klar hat eine DSLR Vorteile (Lichtstärke, Wechselobjektive, ...). Aber bei einer so miserablen Bildqualität darf Sony meiner Meinung nach gar nicht von HD sprechen.

I have the same problem using ALPHA 77! (first revision)

sharp still photos but low quality of full-hd video szenes from the same point. Is it a defect?
