RC 202 Issues - No sound device and services not starting

Hey all,

Sorry to say that I'm still having issues 😞

I've not got a semi working RC202... just a couple of problems I hope some of you may be able to help with.

1) My sound device (I think) is not being recognised. I've downloaded all the drivers from the Sony site but no luck still... I just see an unkown PCI device.
2) A lot of the services which should be starting automatically (they are listed such that they have automatic starting) don't. They include DNS client, DHCP Client, Windows Installer, Themes, Windows Firewall. These services all start OK if I right click and start them manually.

All help/ideas/etc are most gratefully welcome.

Hi Mrs H,

Have you tried right-clicking on the unknown device in Device Manager and choosing 'Update Driver'. Don't let it search automatically, say you have the disc and browse to the downloaded drivers folder - just point at the whole folder and let it search for a compatible driver. I presume you have no sound? Anything else not working?

I am having a similar problem with my RC102. After the login screen it is taking an age to load the drivers and start the Services. According to Event Viewer it is different Services timing out each time. I suspect a Microsoft Update???? If I find the answer I'll let you know - unless anyone else has an idea?

Yup tried all those things with the sound issue.
Just doesn't seem to be recognised at all.

I will try to see if there's a windows update that's still needed.

Right... I've gone with a quick fix for the services issue for now. Basically written a quick .bat script to start the services and then plonked this in the startup folder.

For info the script is (at the moment) simply

sc start Themes
sc start DHCP Client
sc start Dnscache
sc start SharedAccess
sc start Windows Installer

Still no luck with the sound/audio issue though so any ideas all welcome
