slow running when online (have broadband)

got notebook 10 months ago, same time as broadband, but it seems a lot slower when i'm online now?

Hi bhosie and welcome to the forum.

What speed is your ADSL connection?

I suggest that you run the following speed tests to ascertain whether you are within the acceptable limits of what you are paying for.

1 Speedtest.net

2 BT Tester (this will show the configured max. speed for your connection in addition to the achieved download and upload speed.

Bear in mind that running these tests at peak user time will show lower results than say first thing in the morning.

If the tests result in a far lower speed than you expect then I suggest that you speak to your ISP and request that they carry out tests on your line.

Tried test downloaded 1.7mb file at 1854 kilo bits per second. Good or bad?

Assuming that you have a 2 MB connection with your ISP, then this result is excellent. If you are subscribing to 8 meg + you have problems.

Any ideas what it could be then..? I run a virus check using Norton every week and it's clear.

Also tried registry scan online - it tells me I have 300 problems with my notebook.

As your download speed seems to be fine (indeed excellent for 2 Meg) can you please provide further details of why you suspect a problem.

Are you experiencing problems with a particular site(s) or is this connected with general net surfing?

hi Rich,
sometimes you can wait up until 10 secs or slightly longer for a page to show, which was never the case when i first got my laptop, just seems slower than it ever was.

Although you have scanned using Norton I suggest that you try more than one adware/malware scanner.

For a good 2Mbit connection you should have speeds of 1750kbps-2148kbps
