KD-55XD7005 USB Issue

First time poster and not a tech wizard to say the least so be gentle.

I have had the KD-55XD7005 for a few years now and I absolutely love it, I have got rid of the DVD player I attached because all the content I now buy is digital but it has caused me to find a problem.

When I transfer my digital films to a usb and plug it into the Sony it will play but only for 59 minutes then it freezes and stops which was very weird.

I have tried factory resetting, latest firmware is installed, formatted in exfat/fat32 and swapped to many different makes and speeds of usb stick with various different movies and exactly the same happens no matter what I do.

I thought it must be something I had done wrong but I decided to try it on the other three tv's in the house which are all different makes and ages and the files play seemlesly on all the other tv's.

Could someone please help as I could do without buying a new tv at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

.

Hi,

Does it happen with all films or just a few ones?

If it's only with a few films then the file might be corrupted.
Probably the other TVs are a bit more "tolerant" with file issues.

Cheers

All films and different codecs unfortunately.

It's worth checking that you have the latest software version installed (v6.7140) as some version can only be updated manually (version updates, Nougat to Oreo to Pie, etc.)

You can also try using 3rd party players, VLC and MX Player are my favorites of all (even on my PC and laptop, MX on my phone).

Hope this helps!

Tried VLC and it worked great so thanks for your help! It does however make me question why the inbuilt video player is so far behind and a bit useless for digital content.

Thanks for sharing the outcome.I think it just depends on the different technologies used in the players, that might be why the TV has the ability to download another different player. As this can also happen depending on the format on a PC or Laptop as well.

Thanks for the reply, I am amazed that now it has been explained to me that in terms of compatability that Sony are four years behind all my budget tv's.

I have said on my blog that when I am going to upgrade my TV this year how on earth could I even think about buying an expensive Sony when its four year old budget LG's and even lesser brands are way more compatible in our digital era.

I have tried multiple files, with multiple codecs on multiple pc's and unfortunatley Sony came last on all occasions. I hope they pitch up with better compatability so I can buy another loved Sony product.

Hi @japerry97,

We appreciate your feedback regarding compatibility, and we've passed it on to the proper channels for future consideration and product development.

Thanks, I just find it a bit strange, do the newer models have better usb support?

Newer models seem to support more codecs (KD-55XD7005, KD-55XH9005).

That said, you really can't compare a default player to one that is purpose built, or I might just be too in love with VLC and MX Player to accept any replacements. 😂

Hope this helps!
