Sony native video app 4.0.a.2.46 fails to refresh the content of the att. network drive

Hi

The app in the subject fails to refresh the correct content of the network attached drive and displays the same content regardless if files are deleted or added to a certain folder. Very probably it displays the content by the very first access of the drive. Clearing the cache and data in the app's menu doesn't help. Rebooting, as well, doesn't help...Also, in the app's menu, "General" and "Acces settings"  sub-menus cannot be accessed. It is about a Sony KD-49XF8577 running Android 8.0.0.

The local Sony support suggests I should do a SW upgrade... Embarassing and totally unprofessional.

Syelf Diagnostic Result states everything is OK...

Does anybody has any idea what is all about?

Thank you very much!

Software upgrades are the only way that defects in earlier releases get fixed.

Why would it be ‘embarrassing and totally unprofessional’ of local Sony support to suggest that you do one?

Software update is the first thing you should try when you do face an issue, anything else is basically just a workaround or test until an update actually fixes it permanently.

Anyhow, the latest software version is v6.7140, if you already have that, maybe try restarting both the TV and the router then try again?

Hope this helps!

Hi  royabrown2

Thank you very much for your answer!

If for each and every minor issue there is no other solution but to wait for the next sw upgrade, it would have been better not to install the video app at all! The app should work with the actual SW too... More: "General" and "Access settings" are not accessible in the app's menu...I don't if  they should be accessible or there is another bug...

Pretty dissapointing...

Hi  Joe_Dohn

Thank you very much for you answer!

I consider the app should work with the actual SW too. If it doesn't work it is about an Android problem and Sony support should offer me a solution. For the moment I will give up. I will wait opinions about the last sw release prior to upgrade. Thank you very much for all of your effort!

Software is rarely perfect, something that is perhaps regrettably truer of Sony TV software than most.

But on our new LG, we now have to take care to switch the TV on before we switch the YouView box on, so the LG soundbar comes on as the eARC we need, since if we switch the YouView box on first, the TV turns on the LG soundbar as HDMI, and we don’t get any sound.

It all worked fine on our previous Samsung TV; but that had bad staircasing (colour banding) and no control to adjust this, whereas the LG has a setting to combat this.

And my file editing software package, on my Windows laptop, similarly to your USB drive experience, doesn’t always reflect the latest state of the directory it is looking at; even deleting a file on the editing software itself isn’t reflected in the directory listing until I refresh it; and if I pick up a file from that directory before doing the refresh, I get the file that would have been in that position if I had done the refresh.

Which all goes to show that Sony is not alone in the area of niggly software defects 😢

If I remember correctly, though, there are other video apps in the Android TV Store that people have had more success with; you might want to experiment with these, and find one that suits you better than the Sony native one. This is certainly an area where Sony using Android pays off, as you don’t tend to find such alternatives in other manufacturers’ app stores.

@miranda-veracruz I'm a little confused by what you mean it working with the actual software, but keeping it up to date is never a bad idea.

That said, @royabrown2 has a point, have you tried using any of the alternative apps? I personally prefer MX Player (mainly on my phone) and VLC (for everything else, including my PC).

Hope this helps!
