I am having serious problem with my HXD870 DVD recorder. Basically, it will not play the DVD's that I have burned onto DVD-RW blank disks. I get the message "incompatible" or sometimes "no disk". I have tried these same 5 disks on both my desktop PC and also my old Toshiba DVD player and they play perfectly well !! My only option is to try to clean the DVD lens on my Sony HXD870 but my problem is how to access it. (photo of Drive below)
I have taken off the outer casing but I can't see how to access the lens itself. Can anyone guide me as to how to access the lens to clean it with a cotton wool bud as it's probably the only thing stopping it reading the disks. I presume a factory reset is not the problem as everything else works fine
Any help will be greatly appreciated
I forgot to mention in my post that all the blank DVDs that are shown now as incompatible or similar have all been used many times before on this machine with no problems at all. If I could only get the lid off the DVD drive itself I'm sure it's just the lens that needs a good clean......
Have you tried a lens cleaning disc?
It may be more likely that the lens alignment mechanism is out of calibration and no longer can find the
start of the discs.
Have a look on You Tube to see if there are any videos on how to remove the DVD housing
and adjust the alignment mechanism.
Or buy a new DVD player they are very cheap.
There are various youTube videos that show a few different DVD drive units where the lens itself is clearly visible and accessible but none that show the particular drive I have got. I just cannot see how to get into it to clean the lens. I have already tried a lens cleaning disk but it made no difference.
If I have to eventually buy a new DVD recorder, can anyone suggest a modern player that does everything the Sony one does?? I would think that nobody is manufacturing DVD recorders any more !!
Do you have the part number for the transport/ laser housing if so you could search online to see if it is available and just swap it over.
Panasonic is probably the best bet for a DVD player recorder.
Have a look at this,
