about battery charger

Hi,i have to buy a battery charger for  my xperia sp.The shopkeeper gave me Sony charger with Current output of 1500 mA saying that this is for sp and also charges the battery sooner than the other. My original charger had current output of 750 mA.Of course it charges faster but my concern is that may it damage the phone battery due to high output. They said that it is not the case and is from Sony and for SP.Can anybody make it clear if i should keep using this charger?

Thanks.

Due to the higher Amps yes it will charge faster and no it won't damage your phone however what the shop failed to say was that the life span of the battery may and probably will be less than expected - So for example the life span is 4 years using the normal charger - Using the higher amps will probably reduce this time by about 4 or 5 months maybe more - This is an example of what higher amps will do to your battery

You can safely use it,just make sure the output isn't over 5V,the higher amps will not damage your phone.

Thanks alexdon, but may be i m wrong as i believe it is Current more than voltage that should affect the battery life.

The voltage will damage it directly,so be careful.

Ridiculous to say that charing at higher mah will shorten the lifetime. As a RC modelist, I know well enough how to charge and discharge batteries, explicitly the Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries. It's always safe to charge those batteries up to 1C oitput, which means once the capacity. As the capacity on the XSP is 2370 mAh, it's even safe to charge with an output up til 2, even 2,5 mAh output!

It's not ridiculous - It's the truth ask any Electrical engineer or ask the XDA expert - Infact he made a video about this very thing

I think Thommo is right. More heat less life...
