HELP!! How to update Xperia PLAY R800?

Hi.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this post.

I have a problem with my xperia play R800. The phone says that there is software upgrade available so I connect the phone to Sony PC Companion which give me some steps to follow in order to update my phone... after following these steps and going to the part were you have to conect the phone to the usb cable with the back button hold the PC companion gives an error that says "The phone contains a modified software, so it cannot be update"... and then it ends.

Please help me!! I have tried everything. I installed on my PC the sony ericcson update help program,,, I even reset my phone to factory settings and it still cannot be update...

is there anything I can do?

Please let me know... I'll be forever gratefull

you have to relock your bootloader otherwise neither PCC nor SUS will work

Please forgive my ignorance but, why do I need to relock the bootloader? Doing this, will I be able to update the sofware version?

The problem that I am getting is that PC Companion does not recognize the actual software as a valid one... it says that it has been modified and cannot be update.

exactly your bootloader it's unlocked that's why neither PCC nor SUS will work until you re-lock your bootloader

Thank you so much for your amazing help... please allow me to ask you one more question... by re-locking the bootloader, I will not cause any change that could put in jeopardy the functions of the phone right? What changes the re-locking of bootloader will cause in the phone? just the restriction of updating or will it cause anything else?

For example: the phone is unlocked for any GSM carrier... by re-locking bootloader this will not change right?

Please forgive all this question that I am asking, I know I am abusing of your time and patience... I am knew at this.
