The minimum requirements for Android 2.3 Gingerbread are
MUST have at least 128MB of memory available to the kernel and userspace. The 128MB MUST be in addition to any memory
dedicated to hardware components such as radio, memory, and so on that is not under the kernel's control.
Device implementations MUST have at least 150MB of non-volatile storage available for user data. That is, the /data partition MUST be at least
150MB
SHOULD have at least 1GB of non-volatile storage available for user data
there is no CPU/GPU minimum requirements
I wish I could copy paste the OFFICIAL reason by SE but for some misterious reason those posts are gone, like this

I think Xperia Users deserve a better reason on to why their phones aren't receiving any future updates and NO it's not due to hardware limitations

This thread hasn't been answered at least not a REAL answer so far
Eh, we're only the customers who buy they're products and KEEP THEM IN BUSINESS!!!
I see they've got the resources to release lots of new versions that retire and replace the existing ones. My mini pro is buggy and slow and the battery life is terrible! I'm in a 2 year contract with 12 months left.
I haven't kicked up much of a fuss cause it was 'free' but you still pay for the handset through the contract. That and i know i can root it but heck SE, allocate some resources to improving the mini pro. I've seen 2.2 running on it and if xda can do it then i'm sure you can do something.
yes it can be done, but they don't want to invest on updating old phones, even though they want to be the #1 android company, it doesn't make sense even the iCrap update their old phones
guys if you want to have multitouch support, ability to store apps at sd card, android 2.2.3 and other goodies just go here and install the custom rom,i used this wich has been created by me and i have kyradroid 2.3.5 but i have no multitouch.
i have also created this but i dont believe you can use it.
if xda developers create an ice cream sandwich 4.0 for xperia x8 i will install it.
Why is this even an issue?
CyanogenMod have an extremely stable ROM for all three of the devices you mention, running on 2.3.7 (thats newer than the current SW Sony Ericsson have on their LATEST models..)
Googled it, and 25 mins later my dusty old X10 Mini Pro is running faster than ever..
Doubt SE could even make a SW as stable and fast as Cyanogen.
In the time you've wasted moaning about it here, you could have fixed your phone a dozen times, son.

its a joke there new mini pro, does it all and for only 129 quid inc vat, 1ghz cpu, 512 mb ram, support for flash hd video 3d and panaromic photos, it does the lot, i'm tempted for the price, then I remewnber how they stafted me last time, and so alas for sony I went elsewhere, Oh yeah great timing buying out ericsson when in 2007 you were 4th biggest handset mauufactor(sounds good that) but lets put that into perspective its was 4.9%, 2010 they down to 6th place, to put that in persepective , name more than 6 phone makers, nokia, lg,samsung,SE,apple, that cheap one hewy is it ? or 30.8 million handsets sold in q4 2007 when they had 4.9% share, now q1 2011 8.1 million units sold, and they shut down a lot of their r&d offices around the world and laid of 1000's....want the facts wilkipedia it 🙂 its all there
