kdl-40v3000 bravia dark lines/shadows.

i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.

there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.

i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.

WHY IS SONY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM??

Hi some update , I decided to email customer services at currys where I bought my tv 2.5 yrs ago , and sent them  the template letter about sale of goods act 1979,  and here is their response i got today ,

Thank you for your recent contact with us.I have noticed your issue ,regarding an out of warranty Sony Bravia Television.

As a company , we do understand our obligation to provide a remedy for products that fault following the expiry of the guarantee in certain situations .I do appreciate that manufacturing defects may not manifest themselves until after the warranty period has expired.

In view of this and in order that we may consider your request , we would like to inspect your product to diagnose the cause of the fault. With this in mind ,we will require a payment of £60.00 for us to pick up the product and asses the unit at our repair centre.Should our workshop discover a manufacturing fault with the product, your assessment charge will be refunded and your product repaired at no cost.

... so this friday i have a Sony engineer comming to inspect and poss rework concerning the fire risk , then i will be contacting currys to come and collect it and see what they come back with , my Tv is now 2.5 yrs old and out of warranty.

Yep! Another one here!:smileysad:

I've had my KDL 40V3000 for 3 years, the shadow started after about 16 months, started off very small on the left hand side, now its about 2inches wide and and the full length of the TV.  My problem is further enhanced as I bought mine from a business seller on EBay, who has since ceased trading:smileysad: and I was given the standard 1 year warranty, but now I have no retailer to contact.  What a waste of money!!  I will contact Sony, but I won't hold my breathe!

I have exactly the same problem on my KDL-46W5500 just one month after warranty expired. In this picture:

you can see the dark lines on the left side of my TV. Im really upset. Contacting with Sony only offer me technical service phone number to call. In technical service they told me that this is a common problem (and if you Google a little bit is really easy to find out more people with exactly the same issue) and the solution is replace the back pannel that it's so expensive like buy a new TV.

It's very frustrated, I'm really very upset and for sure this is my last Sony TV.

Well I wanted to post too, I email Sony over a year ago and got no reply with my 40V3000 problem. When I turn on my TV the left half of the screen is black and shakes for upto 1min then comes on?? this TV has driven me mad for the money I paid for it almost 3 years ago :slight_frown: all I can say is that i will never buy a Sony product as long as I live and all my family and friend have joined me after showing them the TV.

And on another note I called up my local Sony centre for the fire check and was told I would get a call back that was 2 weeks ago now???? all I can say is buy Sony and from now on I will just get some cheap set and if it goes down chuck it and get somethign else.

Just thought i'd post an update.............

I'm on my sixth or seventh email to Sony now and still they refuse even acknowledge the problem exists let alone help.

They advise that in rare instances this sort of thing can happen and i've just been unlucky, there must be a lot of "unlucky" going around. As for the posts on this forum they advise that they do not give a fair/unbiased opinion on the matter and their numbers are small in comparison. So basically, they do read the forums, they just don't care.

I'm gonna try my luck with this email address, i suggest other people do the same.

Hello everybody!

I bought my KDL40V3000 in 2008.08.13... and to my great dissapointment today I have same result as everybody in this discussion and outside (dark shadows lines).

Old soviet TVsets were better and longer lasting than this one.....

SONY to me was always high quality brand. I hope that I will be able to find common language with SONY representatives in LT....otherwise recently bought Playstation 3 will be the last SONY product that I bought...

And I will make sure that all of my friends will be aware of that kind of problematics with SONY.

Cheers

You can add me to the list too. My V3000 has a black, ring-doughnut shaped shadow about three inches wide right in the middle of the screen.

Shame about the quality of the TV but I can accept that manufacturing defects happen.

But Sony, really terrible job on the customer service side of things.

I have read all of this thread and I'm wondering if I should even bother to contact Sony or just skip straight to Watchdog. I suppose I should give them a chance first. Ho hum.

Regards,

The Dark Shadow aka An Angry Sony Cusomer.

Also have the exact same problem.

When we bought the tv from comets the exact model as we have now it kept switching itself off. Called store and had to wait for an engineer to come and look at it the same day as buying it!

They swapped the tv but only had a display left so took some money off it and we took it away. After 2 years the tv now has a dark shadowing across the left side of screen. Thought it was just me and put up with it up until now as now so bad was looking at buying a new tv and thought I would see if it was a reported problem. And I have found you all and many many other forums and links the same. I have reported to watchdog as suggested and will be sending my sale of goods act letter tomorrow.

Lets hope Sony sort this 😞

Add me to the list.

This has been driving me nuts for the last couple of years, bought my KDL-40V3000 in March 2008 and started noticing the dark shadow lines down the right hand side of the screen after about 6 months. I thought it was because it wasn't tuned correctly. I thought it would disappear tonight when I installed a new SKY HD box and changed the connections from scart to HDMI but that made no difference on non HD channels although it is less noticeable on HD channels.

Bought mine from John Lewis so have a "free 5 year guarantee" and will be going to see their electrical department when I have time. I'll also print out this thread and take a copy with me to show them that this is most definitely not a unique problem.

my problem has been resolved and I have accepted a KDL-40EX523 as a replacement.  I would like to thank the escalations team and Lee in particular for the help and attention I have received in resolving my issue.
