i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.
there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.
i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.
WHY IS SONY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM??
just wondering how long everyone had to wait before they got a response from sony regarding this problem?,i sent all required documentation a week ago recorded post ,not heard anything yet
It took them a month to reply to me, please post their reply so that we can get consistancy
Even though the company I bought the TV from went into administration two years ago it turned out the company that bought them only bought part of the company so I was referred to the company that had legal responsibilities. I'd already sent my letter off to Sony however so I'll let you know when I get a response.
Strange? I have exactly the problems as you. It started about 6months ago and was first noticeable on football. and now is noticeable on nearly everying as it has become more severe and spread from the middle right-hand side to the top left.
I have exacly the same model 40v3000. I have contacted SonyListens today, to see if they can help me out. But I won't hold my breath. My friends and family have bought many Samsung and LG TV's in the past which have never experienced any problems. So if Sony Listens get back to me with a quote of £500 then I'd rather just pay out for a £600 Samsung rather than risk getting another faulty panel. It'll be the last time I buy Sony for both my home and business.
Welcome to the V3000 fault club
Another customer with the same issues Sony, come on you must be seeing a trend here!
I actually checked my receipt and mine is 3 1/2 years olf but the faults appeared in spring of 2010. So I don't really stand a chance in getting a repair really.

i got a phonecall from sony on wednesday this week, first thing that they asked was if i had the tv repaired yet?i obviously said no,they offered to pay half the repair costs which i declined, then i mentioned consumer direct and the sale of goods act,the guy i was speaking to then said he would go and see if the panel was still available ,he said he would phone me back on wednesday afternoon ,im still waiting for that phonecall and its now friday afternoon.
I got a letter today from Sony stating that they are willing to offer £300 for the repair when the repair came to a total of £568... hmm!
After receiving my letter offering no help whatsoever, I rang the number at the top of the letter and managed to get hold of 'Rita' who just so happened to be based in, yes you guessed it, Cairo!
I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told there was no one available & someone would ring me back within 48 hours. I'm still waiting for that call over a week later.
Add me to the list as well... I have the same problem you guys have, all on the left hand side of the screen, I thought originally that I must of damaged it during light cleaning but obviously not as it's got worse and worse, mine must be coming up to 3 years old, I did get a fantastic deal on it in Currys for £649.00 (loads of haggling on that one) but still a SONY product that only lasts 3 years!!!
It's so bad now that watching TV is not enjoyable especially playing PS3 and don't even go there with teh network being down thing... SONY are obviously total rubbish at the moment... LG seem to be teh way forward, anyone suggest how I can complain and start the process. That little guy Dominic Little is my next foport of call he said the other day that all manufacturers have a duty to cover goods for 6 years if its a recognised fault... I think we all know it's a recognised fault as they have openly listed other bravia models that have failed..
They obviously can't get anything right including this spell checker system it's CR@P
