kdl-40v3000 bravia dark lines/shadows.

i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.

there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.

i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.

WHY IS SONY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM??

I talked with customer services and got the same reply as everyone else - no known issue with this TV screen.  I did politely suggest to the very nice man I spoke to that he alert his supervisors to this forum, but I suspect he will do no such thing!  It does make you wonder if the front-liners are told to give a standard response when confronted with this issue.

I then went to my local Currys, from where I purchased the TV about 2 years ago .. they said they had never heard of any such problems.  But, interestingly, I was also told that manufacturers will only do a recall if more than 5% of appliances have identical faults reported.  Hmmmnnnn!

Upshot is, I have been advised to put my complaint in writing to UK based customer services in Basingstoke (tried calling - no chance!) It may have been detailed here previously, but here goes anyhow :

If the panels were stored at the distribution centre in London that the rioting scum burned down I doubt we've a cat in hells chance of getting a new screen fitted now..  :slight_frown:

Does anyone have any updates??      Heard anything from watchdog?   Think I might fill the form in again..

Hi Terrac - I posted the escalation route a few messages up which should be useful as there are a few steps to go through in getting it escalated.

Hope this helps

Thanks

As Catmambo explained before, the best place way to escalate issues like this is either by contacting us at the Basingstoke address or at our call centre on 0844 8466 555.

If it helps, you can also PM me all of the details (as much as you have) and I will forward it on or, if I can, reply directly.

As demonstrated by this previous thread  https://www.sony.co.uk/discussions/message/659127#659127  If we find a problem, as we did with a small number of other Bravia models, we will act, and make sure our customers are made aware of it.

Lee

I have found myself in the same boat as well, Purchased on December 2007 KDL40V3000. Since last few month started as back screen flickering and now it very worse sometime half of left side of TV get blacken and see ghost pic through it. Up graded hdmi cable with expensive one no improvement.

I have also changed some of the settings suggested by another subscriber but no change and quality got worse.

Life long has been a Sony buyer but now time to call it off. Products are not as good quality, customer service it zeros.

KDL-40V3000 - Loss of colour, extreemly bad display retention problem - LCD Panel Fault

I purchased my SONY KDL-40V300 on 05/01/2009 for £945 and up until it went faulty was an  excellent TV. It had a 5 year warranty with Domestic & General, my advice would be to totally avoid any sort of dealing with this company at all costs. They are totally unhelpful and cant seem to get their facts straight. My TV was reported as failed on 19/07/2011, they sent out an engineer, who said the LCD panel was faulty and they took my TV away. I was told I had to wait at least 30 days then they would consider replacing it, which has now lapsed, and my TV has since been written off and they gave me 3 options, if you can call them options. OPTION 1 - Accept a replacement TV of model SONY KDL40CX523 which will have no warranty of any sort, not even manufacturers 1 year warranty, and they said if it fails or is DOA it will be at my cost to fix (Totally unacceptable and a totally inferior model in my opinion, HD picture is unbelievably poor and build quality and materials is so cheap looking, and the stand it has is a complete joke, reviews not very good at all, quotes - Plastic porker, remove SONY badge at its no more than a cheap £200 supermarket TV), OPTION 2 - Accept £360 (What a joke), OPTION 3 - Wait up to 6 months for my own TV to be repaired (Totally unacceptable). They are not willing to to negotiate at all, the options given was the only options available they said, even though at first I was told the recommended replacement model would be a KDL40EX503 (decent TV with good reviews and decent look about it, IE not cheap looking like the KDL40CX523), and that I could put money towards getting a better model if I wanted etc, but they soon changed their mind and said it was non negotiable. I have been SONY brand loyal for more years than I can remember, (Other SONY kit have in my house other than my KDL40V3000 are TV's - KDL60EX703, KDL40S2010. HDD/DVD Recorder - RDR-HX870. 5.1 AV Receivers - STRKSL60, STRK740P, DAVDZ500F. 300xCD - CDPCX355. Turntable - PS-X600. This is all the SONY kit I have in my house at the moment and have had many other SONY products over the years. As you can imagine I am not happy at all. I have been to a retailer to have a look at the KDL40CX523 and I am not impressed, and I can totally see why some of the reviews are using words like Plastic porker, remove SONY badge at its no more than a cheap £200 supermarket TV cos it is cheap plastic and extremely flimsy and the BBC HD picture was unbelievably bad. In my opinion this TV is definitely no match for my KDL40V3000's display quality prior to it going faulty or it's build quality, and you wouldn't expect it to be since it is half the price of the my KDL40V3000. This episode has made me totally rethink my brand loyalty to SONY, and I can categorically say right now, I will never by another SONY product ever again due to the way this has been dealt with. I would never purchase a KDL40CX523 in a million years based on how it looks, it build quality and materials, but the options D&G are giving me are not fair and reasonable in my opinion. What bugs me most of all about the replacement KDL40CX523 is obviously its inferior quality and materials, it will have no warranty of any sort and it has a fixed power cable which is no use to me since all my cables are fixed behind my wall, which will not be possible with this TV as it's power cable is simply not long enough and even if it was I would still have to rip open my wall again to hide the cables again. I have protested this many times but gotten nowhere with SONY or D&G. My advice to anyone is to avoid any further SONY purchases and avoid Domestic & General.

after a lot of correspondance back and forward (letter only - e-mails dont get through) I have accepted half the purchase price of a new TV. I am happy with this as I now have a 5 year guarantee and a new KDL 40HX for about £300.

This is the email address I was told to try.     They didnt even bother to acknowledge my email though.

I edited that e-mail out as its not correct and really only meant for internal us within Sony.  Still, you should have got a reply, in fact I am surprised you didn’t, not least because I have access to that in-box.

I shall send the email again.  I still have a copy of the message in my sent box from 29/06/11

SONY BRAVIA  KDL- 40V3000 another screen shadow issue!

Dear Sir,

I have had mine TV BRAVIA KDL- 40V3000  about three years. I noticed shadow on whole screen, and it became dirt, one month ago. I contacted a local Sony service centre. They told me that I need a new LCD panel.  Two weeks earlier I received a call to say they were writing the TV off as the part was no longer available, and they should offer the equivalent replacement model. That is fine. But two days earlier I received another call to say the new LCD panel is available, and told me that it cost more than new TV. Of course I have no more guarantees.

Is it true that is new LCD panel is available? What can I do?  Like many of other people I have had SONY products all of my life. Can you help me?
