Hi I want to change winXP home by a winXP pro,
but cause Xp home is bundled with my vaio with a lot stuff of vaio programs, when i change the OS every thing is lost, in other words: Does Sony offer a change of OS (Home to Pro with the same bundled programs)?
my Vaio is a notebook pcg k115s
thanks,
Richard
Hm, in my case first thing was a repartitioning and format on the HD and installing an XP Pro. Then I threw up all the necessary programs what I needed. That's all. As I remember I had to get the modem driver and the audio driver from Sony, all others came from other companies (like 4in1 from VIA to the mainboard, Detonator for the video and so on)
It is possibile to do an upgrade.
Please see http://www.xgsystems.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=52#52
boot windows normally
put xp pro cd in drive
should autorun
tell it to install
it should recognise xp home and suggest upgrade; this is what it did on my desktop with 98 se, leaving all my files intact.

you can,but you should be carefull not to loose sony-warrenty an your pc. I did the same but all of a sudden my cd/dvd drive did not work any more and I got advise from this forum to install the drivers and it worked agin. but - it took me a lot of contact with mc local dealer who gave me a lot of confusing (and retrospectively wrong) information. he told me that it I wold have to reinstall the home-edition and to upgrade it with xp-pro, which was completely wrong. he also gave me advice to send my VGN-A115M to the help desk for repair, because he thought it could only be a mechanical problem of the drive.
this forum helped me to sort out the completely wrong information I got from my lokal dealer - but it took me a looooong time. so it makes sense to share knowledge an information in this forum. I only regrett at the moment not to be able to give you the link in this forum to my topic because I can´t find it any more. good luck.
