I have restored my system 4 times in the past week. I had to update all of the microsoft essential upgrades on an individual basis. I cannot upgrade vaio updates as the system is advising that I dont have the vaio zone. Having spent a condsiderable amount of time installing the microsoft upgrades, I dont want to restore the system again to resolve the problem with the vaio zone. Is there a quick fix. My system was replaced [for the third time] by the supplier in november 2006

Hi pcook,
welcome to Club Vaio..
You can manually install Vaio Zone on the FS215Z..
Go to Start > All Programs > Vaio Recovery Tool and click on Vaio Recovery utility.
Once the Vaio Recovery utility has loaded, click the options button and select Recovery Specific Applications that were pre-installed, click OK, then Yes and Yes again.
You should find Vaio Zone on towards the bottom of the list of application, select Vaio-Zone Installer 1 and the select Install, repeat this for Vaio Zone installer 2, 3 & 4..
Normally to update your Vaio you would use Vaio Update..
Many thanks for your help. I am still encountering problems. Part way through the application recovery process at 17% and during 'recordnow' restore, I receive a message advising me to go to the control panel to install and configure system components, click ok. on clicking ok i return to the applications restore process with a message which now has a message 'VAIO utility code:100 continue the recovery process click ok' when I click ok the message remains and alternates between utility code 100 and 102. Continuous tapping of ok is the only thing that moves the recovery process aloong which then ends with a message 'the recovery file not found' I am at the stage where i want to through my computer out of the window [but cant]. grateful for any further assistance you can give.
Are you doing the restore from DVD or HDD?
If you can try to recover from the HDD if the DVDs are not working, it's probably because they've been badly written.
From the HDD. I have attempted this via F10, when the first stage of the restore appears to work ok, and via all programmes, restore. Its the third stage when i restore vaio applications where I have the problem. I do not have and did not make a dvd copy of the recovery disk at the time of purchase, and I have struggled to create one this past week. Can you help?
Hi pcook,
It would appear that the recovery process has not completed correctly..
Like kee-Lo mentioned try recovering your Vaio from the HDD recovery partition. To do this remove any disc's from the CD/DVD drive, then restart your Vaio, when the Sony logo appears press the F10 key repeatedly this normally should start the recovery process..
Ensure you complete the recovery process before installing any further updates.
You might well need to purchase a recovery disk from VAIO-Link as the master is obviously not working.
thank you. I have attempted to recover via F10. I encounter the problem at the 3rd stage of the recovery process.
Pauline
this is the advice that the sony engineer has given to me. How can I check to ensure that I dont have a hard disk problem which is preventing recovery?
many thanks
Pauline
Hi Pauline,
It would appear that the HDD recovery partition may be corrupt..
You can if you wish contact Vaio-Link to purchase a new set of recovery DVD's for your FS215Z..:smileysad:
