Yes, the Xperia Companion Software will first download the software then install it, download size is around 2.8 GB. If you are re-installing software because of Wifi connectivity issues in 7.1.1 update, I already tried, didn't help.

Here are the system requirements for Xperia Companion.

System requirements:

• Internet broadband connection
• 2.0 GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo or better
• 5 GB free hard disk space
• 2 GB RAM
• 1 available USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port and USB cable
• Mac OS® version 10.11 or later

Note! There will be no support for Windows XP or Vista

You will require a continuous internet connection to perform the software repair.
