Good afternoon:
I recently purchased a Sony Ericsson W150a (Yendo/Yizo) and did so based solely on Sony's reputation as a cell phone manufacturer.
But to my chagrin, I have found it to be a huge mistake on my behalf.
After purchasing it, I went to my office to read the manual download / install the SE PC Companion software to transfer all my data to my new phone, my old phone having been stolen.
I'll be concise:
This SE PC Companion software is utterly useless.
Not only does it refuse to connect to the web to upgrade the phone's firmware but it will not detect the phone or connect to it.
Eventually I found software to update the W150a (Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe) to the latest firmware (R2BA006) but the PC Companion software still will not connect to the phone, even after the update.
I came here hoping for a solution to what I supposed was some problem with my PC/hardware only to find that the W150a is NOT compatible with SE PC Companion software.
Not only that, but it seems (as I have seen suggested in one post) that 'a third party' solution is needed because that's about IT.
That is:
Sony Ericsson markets a cell phone with touch screen and PIM, SMS, calendar, alarms, camera, blootooth, etc. (what most half decent phones have these days) but has no software available to back up and control (manage and edit) the phone data, expecting the user do 'anything and everything' 'on screen'.
Frankly ludicrous.
Before I take back the phone and demand a refund, I'd like to know if the IS a this party solution to this problem, which by what I have read on the web seems to be a problem of every W150 owner.
Please excuse me if I sound miffed but I am: I feel I have been taken for a ride by Sony Ericsson, one brand of cell phone I will not be buying again.
Thanks in advance for any suitable advice,
CIV
Sony Ericsson was a joint partnership and it is now just Sony which took place on or around early 2012 - SUS is called SEUS Sony Ericsson update service so would be more compatible the W150/Yendo is a supported device according to the supported devices list so I'm baffled as to why SEUS will work and not PCC - You can use SEUS to perform an upgrade if one is available or the latest update may have already installed to your device
Hello:
Thanks for the prompt reply ...

Just as baffled as I am ...
Thinking it was 'me' or my rig, I searched and came up with an old thread where Dr_Chris replied:

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/ Just checked and the Yendo is supported by the SE update service, which you can download from the above link. Unfortunately though, this phone is not supported by PC companion or My Phone Explorer.Hope this helps.

So it seems there's not much to do about Sony and their useless half cooked software.
To make matters worse, the only Bluetooth services supported by the W150 are Headset, Object Push, File Transfer and Audio Streaming.
The very much needed PIM Synchronization and PIM Item Transfer are absent so theres no way you can sync anything via Bluetooth either.
If you ask me, it's all been done 'on purpose' or 'by design' but to what end escapes me.
It's an efficient way to lose clients, that's for sure.
A 'very' rustic and tedious workaround which only 'half solves' the contacts problem is to export all your contacts (yes, one by one) to *.vcf files and then send them via Bluetooth to the phone, telling the phone to accept them (again, one by one as they arrive) and incorporate them to the contacts list.
But this certainly does not solve the rest of the grave issues created by the lack of a back-up and administration software for the W150.
So my initial question remains: is there a way out of this conundrum via some acceptable alternative software (like my Phone Explore but for the Java platform) or should I just give up and take the phone back, get a refund and buy another one (another brand) with decent software?
Thanks for your input.
Best regards,
CIV

Just a short message to thank all those who pitched in.
After thinking about it for a while I decided to cut my losses and solve my problem so I returned the SE W150a, got a refund from the seller and with the addition of ~40% + $, got a Samsung GT-S5301.
In contrast to the SE W150a, this one is a breeze, as straightforward as can be.
In the end, for a small price (a few $ + some grief and aggravation) I learnt a valuable lesson: stay clear of Sony phones.
Cheers,
