Like Nabeel says, it sounds like the default keyboard has been disabled. This is possible to do when a 3:rd party keyboard has been downloaded to the phone and if the 3:rd party keyboard doesn't work or is uninstalled it's possible that this can happen.
Do you have access to a USB OTG-cable? To solve this you can connect a keyboard to the phone using a USB OTG-cable, enter your password and then enable the default keyboard from Settings -> Language & input -> Current keyboard -> Choose keyboards.
Did you guys changed keyboards recently ?
Like, set default keyboard to some other keyboard ?
Tried restarting your phone ? I think restarting the phone might help.
I've never faced such problem, so no idea what could be the reason behind it or how to troubleshoot it.
