My Z3 compact started not responding to the back button yesterday. Before this sliding down the notification bar started to become difficult too, would often take a couple of attempts.
The notification bar seems to be behaving better now, but the back button is completely not working.
While using the phone I noticed that the back button was highlighted as if it was being pressed. And the phone was not responding. I had to soft reset to get it back. This is when the problem started.
Having read the forums I've repaired my os and now done a factory reset, both to no avail. Before I started to restore my apps and settings the back button still wouldn't work - pointing to a system problem rather than anything I've done.
As echoed upthread, my screen also responds in that area when on lockscreen, pointing to a software issue.
In any case If it was hardware why are multiple phone screens all failing in the same places?
I didn't notice a software update yesterday however, unless something was going on in the background.
I'm now working around this with the back button app & I've also found glove mode works too. One thing I've noticed with glove mode is that the back button only works if I press below the button right at the bottom of the screen. Has a software change caused the coordinates of the back button to be defined too low on the screen (off the bottom?)

Very disappointed, my phone is 2.5 years old and in otherwise excellent condition, no damage, scratches etc and no screen protector to interfere with screen protector.
I love the phone, but makes me think twice about another Sony

Xxxxx Here is what Sony reply to my complaint.

My z3c touch panel spoilt after 9 months, and the replacement touch panel spoilt again 10 months later.

Both time the touch panel fail with same symptoms
* It starts without response on notification bar;
* After a week, no back and home buttons working;
* Tried a complete 'refactoring', unsuccessfully;
* Gloves mode is not a good workround (too buggy);
* Botton shortcuts working on lockscreen (calls, unlock or camera);
* Finally whole screen no touch response.

There are many people facing same touch issue but Sony still ignore the fact and says they look into cases individually on case by case basis.

Does any of other Sony phone have so many user complaints on same touch issues with same symptoms?

I keep asking question on Sony mobile my Facebook. They unable to answer my question and now they have block my account to comment.
An expensive phone that gets broken under normal use circumstances. This is what Sony can provide. No matter how I complained, they just refuse to take responsibilities.

I accept the 50 percent discount on repair, but I also need a 12 month warranty on touch panel. Is it too much to ask for.? I have lost confident to Sony touch panel, and its look like Sony also have no confidence on their own touch panel and refuse to my request. xxxxx

Sorry, is it just what you wrote to Sony?

Because I can't see the answer, am I wrong?

The digitiser on my Z3C has failed.

Should I be shocked that when I came to research this issue, I found a TON of people with the exact same thing??

I've owned many, many touchscreen devices, and this SONY phone, is the only device ever to have developed a digitiser issue. In fact, I can't think of any other touch device I've owned that has developed any issue that stopped me from selling it on or trading in complete working order.

I can't prove with numbers, but just by the sheer amount of posts on the net involving failed digitizer issues with Xperia phones, should SONY not be confirming this issue as an unacceptable quality control fumble, and repairing all affected devices as a matter of courtesy?

The parts or manufacturing involved are simply not fit for purpose.

I felt and still feel like I had been robbed.

Maybe even if I used this phone very minimally (or not at all) it would still get the same issue.

The problem is in The 6.0.1 update.
The gloves Mode fix The bug.

No.

Do that and report back to me after a few weeks. Just keep using phone UNDER NORMAL USE CIRCUMSTANCES in glove mode. (sorry for caps I just couldn't accept this answer.)

Honestly even sony they can't fix these issues I told they are responsible for their products for example companies like apple If you have an Iphone or ipad and not working all you need to do just visit the nearest apple store they either fix for you or you work away with new phone I recommended not only myself but everyone apple not even other androids but after all never ever go with sony or regret big time

Same issue with 6.0.1. What patch is being developed to resolve this issue? I use either glove mode or simple tap app to get around the issue.

Hello,

Same problems as you guys, it started with the notification scroll, and now the home/back buttons.

Still not working... If Sony cares about customers, please fix this with an update.

Hi,

I have the issue with the buttons on the bottom.

 In agreement with earlier posts, I do not think that it is a hardware issue, since:

1. The respective part of the touchscreen works flawlessly in other applications and in the lock screen.

2. I had similar issue with the notification bar / pull down menu.

There are several threads with many users reporting the same problem. However, when I contacted the Sony support, they told me that they had never heard of this issue. They did not have a solution either.

Unclear why they do not acknowledge and solve the problem. The former might be a legal issue, the latter a technical. Slightly_frowning_Face

Best,

My Z3 has exactly the same prolem.  There is nothing wrong with the screen.  I have launched in safe mode and same problem - so not an issue with Apps.  Buttons work when I rotate the screen.

Clearly an operating system issue.
