Hi all,
I am having an issue with subtitles on my new TV and I hope you can advise.
I am unable to turn off the subtitles permanently on my new Sony Bravia KD55XG8796 TV.
I can turn them off whilst watching a channel but if I then switch channel they reappear without being switched on. Simililarly, if I return to a channel I had been watching and had already turned the subtitles off - they again reappear without being turned back on.
I have played around in the accessibility menu and found that subtitles are appearing as disabled as standard, but this is no the case in reality. I have to hit the (...) button to switch them off for each channel.
Can anyone advise how to permanently switch subtitles off as standard.
I think i may need a software patch or advanced settings.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Rif,
Thanks for your suggestion, but there is no digital channel setup, just an initial setup mode for auto tuning.
I’ve disabled the subtitles in the accessibility menu, but the are still popping up.
Is there anything else I can do?

settings-watching TV-channels-preferences- subtitle settings- set broadcast to off
That is if you are on pie. It is different on oero but the same logic is behind it. And don't like the settings on pie at all.

Hi @Teddykins89
Try Home -> Settings -> Channel setup -> Digital setup -> Subtitle setup -> Subtitle setting -> Off

No joy.
There is no Chanel setup option. Just initial setup.
The only place I see subtitles mentioned are on the accessibility menu.

Hi @Teddykins89 If possible, could you upload a screenshot of the Settings menu?

Hi,
I am also having issues with subtitle but they are not resolved by any of the solutions suggested here. This slightly, but I only get sub titles as default when using Freesat (which is a vert recent addition to the Sony Android TVs). I can turn off the subtitles using the remote but, if you change channels (on Freesat) they come back on again. Not the end of the world but very annoying! Does anyone have a solution? (KD55XG8796-XH)
