Evening,
First post. Purchased a KD65X8509CBU 65 Christmas 2015 and have been considering one of the XBOX consoles for 4K HDR output.
As I understand the TV, the HDR capability was due to arrive in an update. Although the TV has updated a couple of times, I cannot see any option for HDR so unsure as to whether or not the TV is HDR capable?
There is no mention of HDR on the box in terms of specs.
Any help appreciated, Robert.

Hi there
Two ways you can tesr:
- Sign up to Netflix's 4K package - they offer 1 month free trial
- Download a couple of HDR test files. See: http://demo-uhd3d.com/categorie.php?tag=hdr
My thoughts on HDR - Jury is still out.
Cheers

Hi there
The X85C series TV is indeed capable of HDR. The picture mode will be enabled on playback of HDR content.

Thanks very much for your reply. Is there any specific way to check the update has applied the HDR functionality?
Also, I read a comment as follows on the AVForums site:
"But in one review of the Android TV model on flatpanelshd.com, they say that HDR cannot be achieved without local dimming, and this model doesn't have that. Could you please tell me more about this?"
Any thoughts on this? I hear HDR makes a big difference so keen to ensure the model I invest in has he capability.
Thanks, Robert.

Hi @Kingjed
The KD-55X8505B is a 2014 model TV - unfortuately there is no HDR for your model.

Thanks, would it be possible through a future update or is it just never going to happen?

Ive not heard anything from Sony to even suggest this will happen. And to be honest, Im not sure its possible anyhow - So take it that its not going to happen.
