KDL-40RE453 can't connect to internet

My TV was connected to the internet but since we moved I can't connect anymore. It says I am connected to my router by adsl cable but no content. I am trying to connect automatically. I have manually changed the IP address but still won't connect. Everything I have read tells me to select reset network settings but I don't seem to have this feature, only auto/manual, check internet connection. Will I have to do a factory reset and start afresh?

Hi Stevie,

I would recommend a soft reset on your TV, which should resolve the issue. You can see more details on how to perform this here.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes,

Sean

Hi Sean

I tried that, Unplug TV for 60secs but still the same. I have already done a factory reset but the TV is still the same. My home screen seems to be different to any tutorial I have seen. When I go to set up, network there seems to be no way to reset the internet connection. When I go to IP address info the TV seems to have some sort of mac address but no IP address. I have IP set to auto. The set was fine at my old address where I connected to the internet via Virgin cable. We are now with BT infinity which works fine with the BT TV box but I can't for the life of me think what to do next. I would have thought that the factory reset option would have reset everything but it has not reset the wifi. I have another, older Bravia connected to the internet with an asdl cable and this works fine. Should I try disconnecting that one? Do I need anything to connect my TV like a firestick or something or is the wifi built in?

This is my set up. The BT hub is connected to the phone line by ADSL. As we live in an old house with thick walls we have a power line set up and the BT TV box is connected to it by ADSL. The power line plug is connected  direct  to the power socket and the TV, BT box, and Sony hard drive recorder ( we only use this to watch DVD's) are connected to a 4 socket extension cable.

It normally doesn't matter about the TV internet connection as I watch everything through the BT box but I would like the TV box to work as it should.

Thanks for wading through all this. I suppose my next step would be to call Sony Tech who I have always found very helpful.

Hi again Sean,

Is it possible to reset the TV to how it was before I set it up. The factory reset doesn't seem to do this to the network settings,

Best wishes

Steve

Hi Stevied,

As far as I am aware and after checking the manual to double check, this model doesn't connect to the internet in the first place

That's written on page 10 of the Manual : https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/res/manuals/4689/46896421M.pdf

The pdf manual is the one included with the TV but it doesn't really give a good fit for the product.  The TV does has an ethernet connection and that enables you to access some internet channels from within the TV guide like Vision TV.  It isn't a smart TV though with browser and apps.  I have exactly the same issue as the initial poster having switched internet provider to BT.  It just won't recognise the connection although it says the cable is plugged in.  We have a LG TV which has an ethernet connection like the Sony and again isn't a smart TV.  That's connected quite a way from the router via homeplugs making it a more complicated link - there was no problem with making the connection.  There seems to be a weakness with Sony products in this respect.  It's hardly a big deal because we get the smart aspects via smart boxes plugged into the TV.  The BT Freeview box also connected perfectly to the router change.  I do remember a struggle with connecting the previous router to the Sony TV but haven't had any joy this time round.  I've tried the suggestions on here too.  If there's an ethernet port on a device a connection to the router should be easy-peasy but not apparently with this Sony TV.

@bazz2011 The manual (page 11) mentioned "Connecting TV to the Internet (Except KDL-40RE4xx / 32RE4xx)". Which indicates that this model doesn't support connecting to the Internet.

Hope this helps!

No, because you haven't read through the posts. Stevied and myself both had this same model connected via ethernet cable enabling access to the several internet channels showing up in the program guide. The TV no longer enables connection to the router.  The booklet provided with the TV is poor so quoting it isn't helpful.  This model can connect to the router.  We know this because it has already done so and the Settings include a section for users to connect to the internet.  It however refuses to do so although the router shows an unknown device at the correct port as being connected. The network set up fails after trying to connect with both options - manual and auto. There is no error message provided to enable a resolution.  This is an ethernet enabled TV only it isn't working as such. It's not been possible to find the correct settings to enter for a successful manual set up.  If anybody has the expertise to suggest what to enter for stuff like subnet mask, Gateway, DNS server, secondary DNS server  the info would be much appreciated.

In that case, it might be worth making sure it's up to date (v9.965).

Meanwhile I did a factory reset.  It was showing v9.965 but now it shows v9.930-1000.

KDL-40RE453 has recovered the ability to tune into internet Freeview channels like Channelbox and Vision TV where I can watch France24.

Going back to the Network Set-up -  When I checked, this is what happened:

Connecting to the Network. Please wait  - - - -

Connection Results

Cable Connection OK

Internet Access Failed

However, the internet based channels now work.  It won't update to the latest firmware so I'd need to download and install via usb.  I'm not sure if the download is still available from Sony or what it was supposed to do.
