Missing frames on USB HDD playback

When playing back recordings made on a USB HDD we get missing frames where the screen goes black for a split second. This can be every few minutes or every few seconds. This only happens on playback, not when watching live TV.

I've only watched half an hour of recorded HD content with the updated software but pleased to report that I didn't see any missing frames. Before the update I had PKG 6.4774.0616EUA I now have PKG6.4960.0628EUA on our KD-49XH9505

If indeed the problem has been fixed, Sony must have known about the problem and have been working on the fix for at least a week or two. This begs the question why didn't they acknowledge this rather than waste our time asking lots of questions and requesting video samples.

Thanks for the reply and confirming your version. I hope the issue is now resolved in this latest update. My TV is a 43XG80 and is still on Android v8. It currently says it is up to date so I will have to wait and hope a v9 update will become available.

Some users have indeed reported the issue no longer happens after V6.4960. If anyone still faces this issue, let us know here so we can figure it out.

Got the latest android 9 update on 4 XF9005 tvs and they all still have the frame drop issue. Two have been fully factory reset too and even this made no difference.

@Mrhappy37

Have you seen the frame drop on programmes that have been recorded since the update and/or on previously recorded programmes that have been played back since taking the update?

I did record and watch the F1 highlights on Ch4 HD and the programme didn't appear to show any but I did see them during the adverts. I've only tried it once, I must find more HD programmes to record and watch.

I also recorded the f1 and saw a couple of drops when it changed from the intro to the presenters. I only watched this short piece as I had watched it as it was being broadcast. Once I had seen the issue I stopped watching the recording as I was only seeing if the fault still existed, which it clearly did.

Hi @Mrhappy37 and @Handyandyxf9005,

Have you tried recording different programmes or using different HDDs if possible (FYI: according to Sony, SSDs and USB sticks are not recommended) ?

Samsung T5 1TB USB 3.1 Gen 2 SSD works ok, no flicker or missing frames now we have the latest software. Only problem I notice is that the title and programme information shown against recorded programmes is sometimes incorrect, typically for the previous programme.

I tried a couple of different hdd’s and an ssd but had the same problem. Also a couple of friends with the same issue are using different hdd’s with the latest software. It worked perfectly for all of us with android 7 but became faulty with android 8, and still now with android 9. 3 tvs are 65xf9005 and one is 55xf9005. Also tried various programmes and it only seems to occur on hd but not sd material.
