Our KD-65X8505C is now stuck in infinite loop mode because of the latest update from Sony (The TV was set to automatic updates over wi-fi).
We have spent hours trying to troubleshoot the issue.
There is a support post from sony from april 27 2020 (just a few days ago)
https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00171297
To us this feels like Sony acknowledging that there is a problem.
We have tried the solution posted on the support page to no avail.
Our TV is from march 2016 and has worked flawlessly over the years. Being 4 years old, it is of course now out of warrenty.
When I rang and spoke with Sony Support (Denmark, where we live) I was more or less told too bad, but they can't do anything and I will have to pay for a reparation myself.
This can't possibly be? Sony has ruined our perfectly working TV and now I have to pay for their mistake?
I was referred to a service center which said I have to pay $50 just to get the problem diagnosed before they can even quote a price, even though it's obvious what the problem is - bad firmware update!
So we have to drive the TV to a service center out of town, pay for a diagnose to then get a quote on eventual repair that we can then decide if we will or can pay. Insane!
If someone from sony is listening, you are more than welcome to contact me with regards to a fair solution to this issue!
there is no such thing as an automatic update just an automatic download that you have to confirm and afaik there is no new update either for your 2015 tv model. Unfortunately there could have been an hardware problem (most probably the mother board) that needs repair. I'd suggest to ask the service centre how much it would cost even before bringing the tv over there
Same ... As a lot af other people
Have you had it fixed?
Many have the samt issue:
1)
The Tv turns directly on, without going in stand-by mode
2)
No picture or sound through the hole process.
3)
Sony Logo turns on, once in a while also the “marsmallow” logo.
4)
You can hear a few click’s from the Power Supply board (PSU) I guess
5)
The backcover is removed.
The backlight turns on for a some seconds. You can only see the light through the holes from the back.
At the front, no light at all.
6)
All above are repeated.
Mainboard, IC
Is controlling everything - from increasing the power on the Power supply to call up the menu’s.
Updating the IC, from Sony - got corrupted instead.
When the tv-set turns on and off in a loop, then you can’t update the IC yourself. Only Sony Can rewrite/Update the IC
Not sure if any of that was addressed to me, but that's why I was asking about Sony engineer contact.
John Doe ...
Just thoughts for everyone 😊
Are you in contact to any Sony engineer about other subjects? I’m quiet new in this Forum
