Hi ,

looking for some advice, when i set up my TV, i think i may have set it up on the wrong HDMI ?

I set it up on HDMI 3 ( eARC/ARC) admittedly i did not check too much into the settings as it worked fine, i need to do some other settings as well, i was recovering from Covid = thats my excuse if the setting is daft

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Geotyler   Yes, HDMI 3 (ARC) is fine but HDMI 2 would be better if you are going to add a soundbar in the future. ÀRC = Audio Return  Channel. There is no problem connecting your VM to HDMI 3 (ARC).

To back up what @LightFoot has explained, if you are still hazy, the HDMI 3 port is the same as the other HDMI ports as far as any source, like your Virgin device, that you plug into it goes, but it has the extra feature that it can send sound from the TV, or any device plugged into it, back down the Audio Return Channel (ARC) to any device that can play the audio, like a soundbar or an AV amplifier.

And as it is the only HDMI port that can do this, people with soundbars or AV amps make sure that this port is kept free of other devices so they can plug their sound device into it.

But even if you haven’t got such a sound device, if you ever might get one in the future, you would want to disconnect your Virgin device from this HDMI input so you can use it for the sound device.

Then you would have to get used to the Virgin device no longer being on HDMI 3, but on one of the other 3 HDMI inputs. So you might as well plug it into one of those now, so you won’t have to perhaps relearn where it is if you might ever buy a soundbar in the future 😛

Hi @Geotyler   What have you set up (connected) on HDMI 3? It is an external input (output to AV).

Hi @Geotyler

If you haven’t got a soundbar or AV amp then HDMI is fine. If you do then connect the soundbar or AV amp to HDMI 3 (ARC) and your VM to HDMI 2. Set the HDMI to Enhanced to get full 10 bit 4K.
