Can not connect to PC companion + Can not update to ICS

I have been looking at the forum but still can't find an answer:

Problem 1: My mobile does not get recognised by PC companion although the mobile will charge via USB.

Problem 2: due to the above, I can not update my mobile to ICS.

Please could someone breakdown the steps I should try? I have tried downloading various things mentioned but haven't managed so will start again.

Welcome to the forum.To update the phone best use SUS.ie Sony Update Service.After installing the software will give you all the necesssry instructions

I have tried SUS before but sadly when I attach the phone to computer via USB while pressing the down volume button, a green light appears for a few seconds on the bottom left but disappears and the phone starts charging...

Any further help is much appreciated.

That is weird.After green light appearing phone should update not chare.It seems your phone port is loose try doing once again or take it to service center.

I have read that others have had the same problem with the mobile charging when trying to update so I don't think my port is loose although I may be wrong.

Any ideas about how to get the mobile connecting to a PC too?

You have to try it again and again. It's little bit hard to press VOLL_DOWN and plug USB at the same time. After few seconds SUS should show message like "now you can release volume down button"....just try it few times and it must work ok

conct ur phone 2 pc n strt t pc companion...........then go 2 settings->applications->development-> USB debugging......tick tat.....nw ur phone wil b detctd by ur pc.........

if tis ans s satisfyin tick crct ans.....

Thank you to every one that helped. The above two comments conducted together allowed me to update my phone to ICS. I can now access my mobile via my computer too. Thank you!
