This is probably not a new issue but I appreciate any input. I have been trying to set up a new Xperia Arc S to work on ATT's network. The phone works fine, it will send text and access internet while in a wireless area but it does not recognize or is not recognized by ATT's 3g network. In talking with ATT multiple times, I have not found the answer and during the last call, the individual said they do not support non-ATT phones. The model is LT18a. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would suggest this
1st repair your phone with SUS w/o your SIM card
2nd remove mcafee
3rd insert the SIM card
4th Enter the APN settings manually

Hi uliwooly...we did get a new sim card ...actually have tried two and I checked your suggested settings against what I had for the apn and that is what I have.... 😞
so it is an LT18a ? because you can flash the LT18a firmware to an LT18i and if you go to settings > about phone it will say LT18a even if it is an LT18i, as you should know the LT18i won't work with AT&T 3G frequencies.

Under the battery says LT18a and also in settings. I updated the phone to the latest software 4.0.3.. I am actually going over to ATT to get yet another sim card to make sure. Sorry but how do I remove mcafee? Once I get the new sim card, I will pull it out and do the second link above.
simple
open the app drawer > look for mcafee > tap on the square made of 4 smaller squares > uninstall mcafee
or
settings > apps > all > mcafee > uninstall
