kdl-40v3000 bravia dark lines/shadows.

i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.

there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.

i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.

WHY IS SONY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM??

Hi davarob,

I totaly agree with you, dealing with this has taken up far too much of my time than I'm comfortable with.

I insisted that because I've already paid £60 up front for the repair estimate, then the £60 I paid up front, should be deducted from the 50% of the repair estimate that I have to pay to receive a KDL-40EX523 as an replacement. It might be too late for you to insist on getting your £40 deducted from what you're been charged as you've already accepted Sony's good will gesture but, it is worth other KDL-40V3000 owners bearing this when dealing with Sony CIC here in the UK.

I think the moral of this story is to buy your next TV from Costco (if you're fortunate enough to have a membership card), ensure that you have an extended warrantee (Even though our Sony LCD panels shouldn't have developed problems after just 24 or 36 months of ownership) or alternatively by a Samsung LED TV!! (which is sacrilege if you've always owned Sony AV products like myself)

IF YOUR READING THIS THREAD SONY - PULL YOUR FINGER OUT OR REPUTATION AS A PREMIERE AV BRAND WILL CONTINUE TO GO DOWN THE PAN!!

My experience with Sony is going slightly differently to you guys……..

I never did get a reply from Rita in Cairo, so decided to call them again & they apologised for not responding to me earlier but was told again by the call centre person that I will not be receiving any help or goodwill gesture. I asked to speak to someone higher up the ladder & to their credit, an ‘Allie’ rang me back within 20 minutes. He was very careful to point out that the call was being recorded for training purposes.

Allie told me he is the top man in Sony UK in Egypt (?) & I cannot get any higher than him! He went on to explain that any TV within the first years warranty will get repaired under normal guarantee procedures, a TV that is over two years old that is found to be faulty will be replaced on the fourth repair but then only at the discretion of Sony.

Now you’ll all like this bit – he said categorically that “no person whose TV that is over 2 years old has received either a replacement, or any goodwill gesture towards the repair”. He added “You cannot trust anyone’s word on the Sony forum & anyone who has said they are getting a goodwill gesture may not be telling the truth!”  (sorry, just quoting Allie)

When I explained I had paid £1,100 for the TV, a further £40 for a repair estimate & then found there is no chance of repair due to no panels being available, he apologised & said I can either throw it away or maybe trade it in with a retailer doing a deal!

According to Allie, there is no UK based Customer Information Centre (CIC) department but then gave me the address to write to: CIC, Jays Close, Viables, Basingstoke, RG22 4SB.

A pretty awful experience yet again with Sony, & to say I am disgusted with their attitude is putting it politely.

Please everybody start reporting this to watchdog and trading standards.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/

Someone might take an interest if enough of us are complaining about it!...

Sonys attitude on this is unacceptable...

New

update on my situation,

i went to my sony repair centre today to pick up my new tv,(kdl 40-EX523)new tv seems fine so far but its early days.

My kdl-40v3000 was nearly 3 years old,i had the panel replaced when tv was 10months old,the same shadow lines appeared  again on this replacement panel,i took tv to repair centre on the 11th may this year, got a written estimate, sent it to sony cic with all relevant paperwork,i was offered half the repair costs, refused there offer, after many phonecalls and another letter i  eventually settled paying half  the repair costs but got a new led backlit tv.

This has taken a long time to get sorted but hopefully i wont have any problems with this tv

Lets hope everyone that is having problems with the V3000 get there issues resolved to there satifaction and i would also say dont let sony fob you off and keep at them

I have the same issue with my tv a kdl40v3000, sometimes its like watching tv through a dirty, streaky window   😞  living with it a the moment but it really is starting to get on my wick.  Reading everybody elses situation it appears that sony is ducking this one, why acknowlege a problem with the w and x series but ignor the v series. I posted a complaint back in march along with others and have heard narda !!! If they have run out of replacment panels for this model that definitly says something would'nt you think ...  As i said before in previouse posts this has put me off buying sony products, its not like there are no other choices!! In terms of quality Maybe sony has had its day !!!

I have contracted Watchdog. Let's see what they say. They will be interested in light of the fact Sony take responsbility for the W series and not the V. Double standards and outright wrong.

Wow!

I have the 46V3000 and finally got around to investigating the odd shadows across the screen, came here and discovered it's a common problem.  And I thought it was something I had done wrong in trying to clean it!

I'm going to contact Sony and see what they say and also the Currys I purchased my TV from.  Will report back with anything new they tell me (though I doubt there'll be anything!)

Same thing here. We are in Ireland. Was told at the shop they had never heard of this problem. Advised to contact Sony but have tried using the contact form and keep getting errors but no idea why.
