KDL52W4000 & DAV IS-10 Bravia Sync not working

Hello, searched the site extensively but cant find an answer to my query.

As the title suggests the Bravia sync buttons on my TV remote dont operate the DAV IS-10.

The TV settings in the HDMI DEVICE list are        "Player 1                HDMI1           DVD SYSTEM"

                                                                            "Audio system       HDMI1           DVD SYSTEM"

This was done by using the Device update List option. The control for HDMI is set to ON.

On the DAV the HDMI control is also set to on in the custom setup menu.

Going through both manuals, re setting everything time and time again it still doesn't work.

I've had the set up about 2 years now and keep trying every now and then so now I need some help!!!

My DVD recorder manual (RDR HXD870) says explicitely that it support only:

  • one touch play: pushing the play button on the RDR remote, it automatically switch on the TV and the input to HDMI
  • automatic switch off: switching off the TV automatically switch off also the recorder.

nothing more. Check it on your DAV manual, normally is written with very small character :slight_frown:

What do you mean by  "Bravia Sync buttons"?

The only button that is supposed to do something is only the red one (Theatre) that just set "Cinema" setting in all the devices (TV and Audio). The Bravia sync concept is working like this: if you switch-on the DVD player it start automatically the TV and the AV and switch the tv to HDMI 1. You can adjust the audio via the TV remote. If you switch off the tv, all the other devices are switched off automatically.

I don't know why they put also the play, stop, etc. because they are not supported via HDMI (you can check it in your DVD manual to see which command are supported). One thing that I didn't try (and Sony is discouraging) is to connect the DVD via scart: the SCART connection via smartlink support for remote command from the television

Hi I would advise you have the set looked at by a local authorised service agent, there have been a number of firmware updates for this set to fix some issues, I believe one was related to HDMI control issues.

I had my KDL32W4000 updated in Italy by SONY assistance to release 419 (if I'm not wrong) that was issued specifically for HDMI syncronization problem. I have to say that it did nothing for me and in any case I've a different problem: my TV lost the connection to the AV HT CT350 (doesn't switch to hdmi, doesn't accept volume adjustement from the TV remote) in some specific event: i.e. if you switch on the TV set by pressing the green on/off button instead of using the channel +/- or a channel number.

What I've understood is that he has a different problem, maybe because he expects something from Bravia sync that simply is not implemented.

Thanks for the replies. I dont think Im expecting something it doesnt do. They were sold to me as two units that link together and the 7 buttons on the TV remote operate connected Sony equipment (using HDMI CEC) . In the TV user manual on page 19 it says "You can operate the connected Sony equipment that has the Bravia sync logo by the TV remote by pressing: (then it shows the play, pause and forward/reverse buttons) to operate the connected equipment directly"  This indicates to me I should be able to use these TV remote buttons to operate the DAV.

The Sony centre I bought the equipment from has shut down, even when they were open once they had the cash they werent really interested in problems. There isnt a place locally where I can take my set up to see if firmware can be updated, plus its all bolted to the wall and the TV wont fit in the back of my current vehicle!

rooob, you're spot on. Closer examination of the manual confirms you're reply.

It appears I was mis sold the compatability of these units by the Sony Centre. Both boxes have Bravia Sync all over them but only limited connectivity.

I have two Bravia TV's, PSone two and three,PSP, two sony walkmans, HTK215 surround system and the DAV and to be honest the lack of connections betwen them all drives me to despair. Think I'll move to Panasonic, my dad has no compatability issues with his Viera range.

Cheers for helping me clarify this situation.
