Good day, i had a sony xperia z5 and it broke, it's unfixable. I have a backup of the xperia on my pc, is there a way to transfer it to a new phone? I cannot connect 2 phones together since the Z5 is dead, i've tried uploading the backup to google drive and accessing it from another phone but it won't read it. Thank you.

Hi again @han5!
Oh, I see. The Xperia Companion program will only work if you "transfer/restore" it to another Xperia device and as you noticed with the Xperia E, some of the older models are unfortunately not compatible with the program.
If it was an Xperia E1 that would have be enough, as that device is still supported by the program, the Xperia E is just a bit too old.
As you mentioned, your best bet is to get a hold of an Xperia device, either second hand, or if a friend, family member or colleague have one that they aren't using that you can restore the backup to > transfer it to your new device. Keep in mind that I can't guarantee that all data will be transferred as there can be a difference in Android versions and so on.
I hope that you manage to figure something out so you can keep your data!
No it's not. Can i only transfer the backup back to another xperia z5?
Hi @han5, sorry to hear about what happened your Xperia Z5.
The backup that you mention that you have on your PC, is that one created with Xperia Companion? If it is, you may be able to use the Xperia transfer function in Xperia Companion to at least try and restore some data to a new device, depending on which model it is.
Start Xperia Companion and click on "Xperia transfer" > Next > Sony > Backup. Now you should see a list of backups that you have previously made > mark it > click on "Next".
Let me know if that helps!
Hey Jonas, thanks for the reply. Yes it was done through xperia companion. The other phone i have however is not a sony. But if there is a chance i could transfer the backup i don't mind getting a second hand xperia just to transfer my stuff.
I found an old xperia e duel but the companion app is saying "There is a problem with the target device..." It might be too old of a phone.

I managed to find a used one and it's transferring everything. Thanks a lot for your help.
Hi again @han5 and that is very good news!
Hopefully everything goes smoothly with the transfer from that device to your new one later on and have a great weekend!
