Ringtone volume locked at 0

Somehow the volume of my Z3C got locked at 0. When I press the volume up button on the side, the slider is displayed but the volume is not increased. When I press the button to show all volume sliders, the Ringtone slider is grayed out, the other two not. Also the slider for Ringtone volume in Setting->Sound and notification is grayed out. So now I need to regularly check if messages have come in and phone calls are probably missed. How to resolve this?

The phone was updated to Android 5.1.1 over the weekend. May be that has something to do with it?

Best regards,

Patrick.

I had the same problem, managed to solve it, but couldn't know what caused it. This is how it worked with me. When you press the side volume buttons, you get the ringer volume screen with the volume locked at Zero. Drag the slide indicator to the right with your finger. It should move, stop once you reach your desired volume.

I found that when this happened to me after an update, the phone had set itself to alarm sound only. By hitting the down volume button, the option appeared to reset the ringtone sound. I ok'd it and it was back to normal.

Hope this helps.

This is what happened to me:
I have a silent mode from 8pm to 8am and turned off my phone at midnight and turned it on after 8am. I was unable to change volume because it was stuck in silent mode and it was not possible to turn silent mode off, so I moved the end of silent mode (1min from actual time) and waited and then it deactivated and everything worked fine again.

One suggestion worked for me. Play the music and press Volume Up Key, on volume bar right side, click the Bell icon and now you can increase the ringer volume from there.

Strange though that the Sony Support always try to suggest Hard Reset rather than troubleshooting.

The 'Do Not Disturb' fix worked for me on my XZ. Definitely a software bug but at least I have an easy fix that doesn't involve reset.

First, I have to admit that I was embarrassed when I discovered the solution to this problem, for my phone. I read all the recommended solutions and nothing seemed to work for me. Just as I was about to use the PCC solution, I "accidentally" flipped the switch on the side of my phone and, voila!, the ringer was working again. I must have inadvertently flipped that button. So, before you try anything drastic, check that the ringer button, on the side of your phone, is flipped to the on position.

Thanks

Thank you... Using the finger  on screen method worked for me. It wasn't headphones as I haven't used them. Many thanks 🙂

Just ran into the same problem and come across your question. While reading through the answers, none of which I likes I was fiddling with the phone.

Used the volume controls on the right hand side to increase the volume, and the ringer volume control came back on. Seems stupid but that did the trick. Hope it works for you.
