Same problem for me. Sony Companion was useless (particularly now that is not working on macOS Sierra).

Clearly, it is a software issue, as the same area of the screen is working while in the lock mode.

Nevertheless, at the dedicated Sony repair centre they told me that it is necessary to replace the touchscreen (without even looking at the phone) and that it is 190 euro, thanks.

For the time being, I am using an application that gives me access to the Home/back/... functionalities, but I hope that Sony will take care of this problem with some updates, soon or later.

What else did they ask you, if they didn't look at your phone?

Funny that's how they troubleshoot?

The troubleshoot went like this:

"what's the problem?"

"these areas of the touchscreen don't wo..."

"is your warranty expired?"

"yep, like 5 days ago.. I also sent an email to Sony but I couldn't come earl.."

"it's 190 euro to fix it. But with 50 euro more you can buy a new one... What do you want to do?"

meh.

Same here. The three function buttons and the notification pulldown doesn't work anymore. Done a repair with The Sony SW, resseted the phone, and back to initial settings. Nothing works.
Two things left: download the app "Simple Button" and use this one as a work around. The app let you place the buttons on any side of the screen. It is totally configurable and adjustable. Works great.
The other solution is to bring it to a repair centre. Mine is there now. I hope they can fix the thing because is a of a phone.

im also facing the same problem , the dropdown and one portion(entire right side of teh screen - around 2 mm in width) of the screen was not responding since the update and from today all the three home buttons also ar not responding.

I am a die hard fan of sony fones and have been using Xeperia Sola and Xperia z1 compact before the current fone. I too have noticed the phones' response to a software update, especially after the fone becomes one year old. My Sola had a battery issue after a software update 16 months after its purchase and the Z1 lasted just 14 months. And now the present fone is in its 17th month - software update was done and now the fone suddenly starts to malfunction. sony, please fix these issues else you are compelling loyal supporters like myselves to change the brand which i really doesnt want to do.

Same here!

Two months ago I had the issue with dropdown menu not pulling down when I swipe from top to bottom of my screen, but i found a simple trick so I was able to live with it: just tilt your phone to landscape and pull the menu down.

And now navigation buttons is not working. Goodness, what the is happening with my phone!

Here are some of the things I’ve noticed from my phone:

  1. Dropdown issue came a few days after I started using a tempered glass screen protector and jelly case.
  2. A lot of times my phone would heat. A LOT. When I’m surfing the net or playing certain games. I immediately remove my jelly case and restart my phone or keep it off for a little while when this happens.
  3. Software update. My phone’s original Android version was 4.4.4 Kitkat. Once, I approved the update thinking it was good. Second time I accidentally approved it, sigh. My current version is 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Nav buttons! This make my phone practically useless. Today I tried using glove mode (Settings > Display > Glove mode) and it did solved my problem. But based on posts from other users this is just temporary as it will eventually stop working too. Will update you again when it stops working Slightly_frowning_Face

I kinda love my Sony phone. I hate the battery problem on Samsung and Apple is very pricey for me, too much security mechanisms for not-that-expensive hardware package. I hope Sony finds a solution. If so I’d still get Sony for my next phone.

I'm not using any phone case / screen protector yet my phone screen has the same issues.

My phone did the same thing. I have tried everything. I lost a lot of progress of my applications etc while re-installed my phone many times. I also called the sony helpdesk. They couldn't help. Finally, I called for Sony Care service, because I have warranty. They said 5-10 working day and I get my phone back. This was 3 weeks ago. I think, they neither know, what causes the problem and which is the appropiate solution. They didn't offer telephone exchange, that was our luck, that my husband has an old smartphone and now I can use an other phone while my device is under service. I love my z3 but I think, that I never buy sony again.

I solved the navigation bar problem using Xposed + "Xperia/AOSP NavBar Buttons" module. Just increase navbar height to 150% and it's done. For the notification, bar install Nova Launcher and use the home button action (free) or the swipe down gesture (paid).

My tactile does not work correctly, has not been hit, or scratched, what is the bar portion of notifications not low.

Hi @Vanegs92,

Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear you're having issues with the touch on your Z3 Slightly_frowning_Face

Just to confirm, it is only the notification bar at the top that is not detecting your touch?

Can you please go to Settings > About Phone > Diagnostics > Test and test the touch screen. Look for any areas where it will not see your touch and let me know how it goes.
