To get close to acceptable lip sync I have to set the TV dialog sync setting to its max in the sonos app. Even then it isn’t quite right and what is more it varies over time. Can be watching one minute and it is acceptable, 30 minutes later it is noticeably out.
Watch SkyQ or AF9 internal sources on TV speaker and lip sync is fine. Watch Sky Q or TV sources using Sonos Beam and problem is the same on both. So to my simplistic mind it appears to be an issue with the way the AF9 is putting audio into the eARC signal. Or a config issue.
Any suggestions.
Hi,
The issue might be related to the different processing times of the audio signal in the various devices.
E.g. lip sync is probably fine with stereo signals but is getting worse with multichannel signals.
If possible I would suggest to connect the audio signal directly to the sonos beam to reduce processing time.
Cheers
Peter
That would be the opposite way round to the problem I have got. My Soundbar audio is early and I am having to delay it in the Soundbar settings to get anywhere near acceptable lip sync. I just can’t delay quite enough.
Also taking audio direct from the source only really works when you have just one source or you don’t use the Apps on the TV. If you also use say a Blu Ray Player and Netflix on the TV then you won’t get any audio.
Is the TV up to date: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/oled-tvs-android-a9f_af9-series/kd-55af9/downloads/000171...
Does the lip sync remain if you disable eARC and just use ARC?
Yes the TV is up to date in terms of software. How do you disable eARC and just use ARC? I haven’t seen anything obvious in the setup menus, but might well have missed it.

You can find that option under Settings - Display & Sound - eARC Mode.

Thanks, just tried it. Disabling eARC and running in standard ARC makes no difference to the lip sync. The audio delay in the Sonos is still cranked up to max and not quite there.
Have you tried using Optical instead of HDMI ARC?
Yes. Optical from TV seems to be about the same as HDMI, ie I don’t have quite as much adjustment available as I need. Audio still a touch early even on max delay on Sonos.
Also tried various permutations of Dolby Digital, Digital + and PCM. All much the same,
