I had already reported this problem at this location:
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/154707
Repair center has failed to resolve the issue and so I am recreating a new thread as I am no more getting any answer in old thread as well.
In the mean while someone else (User: jugunu) also reported the same problem.
Sony Ericsson repair center has given me back my mobile saying that everything is changed and we cant do anything now. And asked me to escalate the issue by calling Sony Ericsson (they want me to follow up instead of solving themselves inspite being official service center)
They said they replaced motherboard which means they replaced everything except the plastic cover but cant solve the riddle anymore.
So inshort my problem is STILL there. West is still shown as East. East also as East.
I tried three apps
1) Google Sky Map
2) SatelliteAR
3) Space Junk
Satellite AR keeps showing me error that "Compass calibration is unreliable"
I keep trying to calibrate compass by making 8 OR infinity symbol in air while holding mobile in palm. (The method I found on youtube) But it still continues to show "Compass calibration unreliable"
I hope I get a solution after buying such an expensive phone. Otherwise its not fair deal from Sony Ericsson side.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Any response?!
Sorry sigterm but the only solution to this problem involves rooting. All current firmware updates have so far failed to address the sensor problem. It's really up to the user to fix this one and unfortunately, that means rooting your phone and using Flashtool to manually enter the correct configuration. Don't expect a firmware fix from Sony. I don't think they're willing to invest time and effort to create firmware to fix a year-old phone.
Hey there was solution to this here in this thread.
Johan, the moderator himself had posted a full solution (which involved rooting) around 5-6 months back. Though solution assumed that mobile is rooted but it was helpful.
But now the solution has been DELETED!!!! Why??? Looks like Sony does not want to promote rooting and audit department deleted the solution provided.
Here is cached version of same that I found via google:
That is fine if sony does not want us to root. But atleast release the patch, please.
And now I find that the same problem exists in ICS. (I just now upgraded to ICS) and problem has re-surfaced. But now my problem is that, ICS can not be rooted (without unlocking bootloader, which I do not want to do.)
Why isn't the problem fixed in ICS? It was mere a number change in a certain file. Hardly 6 byte/character change.
It would be very easy for Sony to fix this by sending OTA fix. Why dont they do it? The fix would hardly be few kilobytes, maximum few MB considering overhead etc.
Please fix this by releasing an OTA patch. It would not even take more than 30minute to release such a minor patch because it would be targetting only WT19i devices and not the whole range of sony mobiles.
Please do this as otherwise the navigation and GPS features become useless.
We have paid for this and BUG AND ITS FIX is now known for more than 5-6 months. So why was it not fixed when ICS was released?
Please do. Thank you.
I have resolved this (for both ICS as well as Gingerbread)
All you do is root your phone and change file called /system/etc/sensors.conf (reboot the phone afterwards)
ak897xmagnetic_axis_map = 0,1,2
ak897xmagnetic_axis_sign = -1,-1,1
Rooting method was followed from here:
Thanks for the hint but I think you don't see the point.
We simply don't want to root. We have paid for the phone, it was stated that these features are well supported. They aren't. This feature was also paid by us. If we knew that this isn't working, then we just simply choose a concurent product. This is just so simple.
All we want is to include this horrible difficult fix in the next update of ICS. Sony had several possibility to do that, but they didn't.
Yes I have already complained the same in above post. That sony should take responsibility and fix this. They have released 3 updates after I reported this issue. But they havent bothered to fix this in any of them.
So I provided the solution, for those who dont want to wait or dont expect that Sony will fix this. Ofcourse its very difficult and requires technical knowledge.
i had done this but after this my handset is geting continues restart, i am not even able to restore original file back.... pls help...
iam on the same situation here
This is not legal , they really should fix this problem , i dont have to root so i dont lose the waranty
