The minimum requirements for Android 2.3 Gingerbread are
MUST have at least 128MB of memory available to the kernel and userspace. The 128MB MUST be in addition to any memory
dedicated to hardware components such as radio, memory, and so on that is not under the kernel's control.
Device implementations MUST have at least 150MB of non-volatile storage available for user data. That is, the /data partition MUST be at least
150MB
SHOULD have at least 1GB of non-volatile storage available for user data
there is no CPU/GPU minimum requirements
I wish I could copy paste the OFFICIAL reason by SE but for some misterious reason those posts are gone, like this
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/03/25/update-on-xperia%E2%84%A2-x10/
I think Xperia Users deserve a better reason on to why their phones aren't receiving any future updates and NO it's not due to hardware limitations
Solved! Go to Solution.
i live in the middle east,i've already visited sony ericsson xperia x8 site (in arabic) this page: [www.sonymobile.com/global-ar/products/phones/xperia-x8/] i've checked out th os (says:google android 2.3(Gingerbread) MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 600 processor) i dont know what that means, but i know that most great android apps are for v2.2 or higher,so that why i've bought sony x8 xperia, now sony saying we cant make 2.3 for x8,only 2.1 !!!!
i will never buy anything from sony again
i repeat it says here: www.sonymobile.com/global-ar/products/phones/xperia-x8
(in the middle of the page you can see it,down the phone's image)
that's false advertisement, take a screenshot and contact Sony, they should reimburse you, here in the US a corporation can't get away with that or even other countries like Australia, apple had to pay some customers for over selling siri, which it doesn't work as advertised, but this is just WRONG.
And because there Unofficial Updates to 2.3? Why not make or adapt one for the Xperia x10mini pro etc, Please I'm sure Sony Ericsson will not disappoint us
Just want Android 2.3 on x10 mini / pro, xperia x8
Ice Cream Sandwich not want if there are no official versions stable and good why not make an OFFICIAL
Would this repeat itself with the 2011 Xperias, since Sony claims that there are hardware limitations with ICS but they are releasing new 2012 Xperias with lower hardware aspects but can run ICS smooth?
Do we need more low end phones? are this phones running a smooth ICS with lower specs than 2011 Xperias?

Hi,
18 months of updates does not necessarily refer to Android version updates. This also includes performance enhancing updates on the Android version the handset is already running on.
Our developers will test the handsets on the new versions of Android which Google release and confirm whether the user experience is stable enough to provide an update.
Until we have confirmation regarding this, we would be unable to confirm which units will be able to run this version.
Just like she did before

Re: The real reason X8, x10 mini/pro, w8 won't get an update?
The official statement does mention the RAM but it also mentions the following reason:
The upgrade of XperiaTM X10 also was made possible due to that we had a code base that mostly could be reused. For the mini’s, who have a different user interface, this possibility did not exist.
I am only able to provide you with the same information I have been provided with myself.
BUT the fact is that Android doesn't have a minimum hardware requirement. I've been waiting for you or someone from Sony to reply to that thread and still no answer.
The 2011 xperias are pretty powerfull, my mini pro could beat the NEXUS S, which is getting Jelly Bean, both in Quadrant Standard edition and Neocore. Project butter needs at least 60fps and my mini pro scored 64.4 fps on neocore and reached a max 3D render speed of 59fps on quadrant while installing 3 updates from play store.
And can someone explain me how the 2011 xperias got a laggy ICS on snapdragon S2 processors while the new miro and tipo get ics smooth on S1 processors?
And of course, they will get the super fast jelly bean because they are new phones, even with inferior hardware, and we, who have 2011 xperias and are the majority of the users, will have to die on a super laggy ICS.
They should make this update like samsung did with the galaxy tab 10.1 on its release: It came with pure honeycomb 3.2, but if you wanted, you could upgrade it to 3.2 + touchwiz UX
It would be nice if there was a rom without timescape, and PCC asked if you wanted to update with or without timescape.
It actually would be a positive point for Sony, there would be more efforts, of course, but they would be known for allowing their costumers choose how they want their phone, and would even get new costumers, the people who want the pure Nexus android, but can't afford one.
why are we getting lies instead of real answers?

As the hardware of the X8 handset does not meet Google's requirements for the higher Android OS versions, unfortunately it would not be possible for us to update this model.
