Xperia S, ice cream sandwich mobile to pc conn problem

Hi all!

First of i would like to say that i did all the research that i possibly could and I am by no chance pc or mobile wiz so please be patient with me.

I know you have 10000s of questions like this but please try to help me.

I have sony xperia S with all the latest updates(i bought the phone few days back and it updated by default) and i belive i have android version 4.0.4.

My problem is as many users here have is that i cannot connect my mobile to PC. I tried most of the solutions and  nothing worked , all of the solutions i saw include deleting mtpapp which I DONT HAVE!

I have win xp .

it says i have LT26i  and version 6.1.A.2.45

Please help me i am going nuts here

no i am sorry, but let me tell you also, when i open device manager in i have something called portable device and inside is icon MTP DEVICE with yellow exclamation on it and says code 10.

- when I plug the phone in usb(this is without usb debugg) just for a second i see "found new hardware LT26i" and then  after than comes that annoying MTP msg all the time.
