Can anybody tell me how I can set my new laptop to go to sleep AND wake up correctly?

Currently you can shut the lid and something happens as when you open it it's black and you can't get anything to be shown? This is really annoying as I'm moving around and using it with customers - I'm finding I'm having to appologise for the laptop too many times!

Are there also any guides to what services and components can be removed to get some more perfomance out of this as it just appears slow next to my 3 year old compaq!

Thanks for any help - I would love to get this thing working as good as it looks!

Hi Thalamus, thanks for the advice.

I originally did the BIOS update before I reinstalled Vista at the weekend.

I just tried reinstalling the Nvidia display drivers (v7.15.10.9746 - 07/12/2006) and it still switches to 1024x768 after being on Standby. 😞

Did you have the resolution problem before you did a clean Vista installation..?

I'm afraid I didn't use the laptop for long enough to discover it.

However, I can easily put the original hard drive back in and tell you the answer to that, it has the cluttered Sony install of Vista on it. I will probably do that tomorrow though; I've just had my laser printer apart to repair the fuser and I've had enough of tiny screws for one night (funny... I think I've heard my girlfriend say that :smileylaugh:)

Yes me too, however they have finally listed the vista drivers/updates for the FE21S in the support section, but the new bios they have listed for Vista, does not work, and in fact is older than this newer one.

Fortunately the FE21,31 & 41 series all have the same bios, and its working great now thank goodness, as it was sooooo frustrating.

All we need now is for the Undate 3.0 software to work under vista, or Im I the only one having a problem with this ?

Does the new bios also work on the FE11 series? The difference between the FE11 and FE21 is very little.

I got a FE41S three days ago and unfortunately it hast the same problem with changing the resolution after standby mode. It also comes up with 1024... instead of 1280x800. Thats really annoying. I got the vaio with the 190 whatever bios and the problem was there. I updated it to the 200 whatever Bios version and the problem is still there.
Has anyone a clue what to do? Is there a chance to get an icon on the desktop that changes the resolution back instantly so you would only need one click?

Try a system bios update... The latest version is R0200j3... Using this update should solve your problems...!

Temp fix till new drivers are available.. put the computer to sleep before closing the lid.. it should then resume okay..

have the same problem, found this thread, tip works fine... (Fn+F10)

"One of the things was couriosly pressing the function key with the magnifiing glass located on F10. It changes the resolution to 1024 pressing again changes back to 1280."

I have a FE41Z with this same resolution problem after the lid's been closed. Most of the time it's then impossible to find that part of NVIDIA control panel which is needed to slide the resolution back to high! (It only offers the colour and display switching controls, nothing on resolution) It's a very, very annoying problem on a nice laptop.

Can an expert please set out the fix in real kindergarten steps for me to work through and get this sorted? All help gratefully received!

Hi everyone.

I've a FE41S with Vista Premium updated till April 3 of 2007 and the 101.41 Nvidia beta drivers.

I've updated the BIOS to R0200j3 just the day the version was released. The problem with the black screen was solved.

My problem now is that if I shut down the PC with ALT+F4 combination (I don't know now if I've tried it shutting it down using the menu), and I close the lid before it finish to shut down, it DOES NOT finish shutting down till I open the lid again.

Does anybody has the same behaviour?

Other strange thing is everytime I start windows vista, the desktop appears, the screen goes black an the desktop appears again. This has happened every time since I bought it, with no updates or with all of them.
